The physical environment at Hohepa Canterbury is beautiful, comprising established trees, flowing lawns, an occasional sculpture and gardens. We have a holistic approach to supporting clients which is based on the philosophies and teachings of Rudolf Steiner.
The team working at Hohepa Canterbury is passionate about the people they work with and are highly skilled in supporting people with intellectual disabilities to reach their full potential in daily living, self-esteem, communication and relationships. Our people are dedicated to supporting clients to achieve their individual goals and to develop skills that increase their independence.
When we recruit new staff we seek people who are open, caring and who bring a collegial approach, working positively with clients, colleagues, families and management. We look for team players who recognise that the team includes more than the people they work with on a daily basis.
At Hohepa Canterbury most staff support clients in their homes with meal preparation, personal care, medication and transport to hobbies or sports. Staff work alongside clients providing training and modelling skills in self-reliance. Hours of work are between 4pm and 9.30pm, sleep over then work the morning shift between 7am and 9am.
We have a small team supporting clients in our Day Service, taking them out into the community in a range of activities including library visits, beach walks, craft groups and hobby gardening at our Halswell Campus. The hours for these roles are between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
We also have a small team of administration and management who look after payroll, finance, administration and staffing, working largely between 8.00am and 5pm.
To be considered for paid employment at Hohepa Canterbury, you need to be available for an interview in Christchurch and be eligible to work in New Zealand.
