Coronavirus: Disability home facing $100k cost to protect residents from Covid-19

Costs are mounting for disability support services trying to keep coronavirus from entering the homes of society’s most vulnerable.

A financial assistance package will be needed for not-for-profit support agencies that do not qualify for the wage subsidy, New Zealand Disability Support Network (NZDSN) chief executive officer Garth Bennie says.

Hohepa Canterbury is spending 675 hours more on support workers to be with their 97 residents at home all day.

General manager Arnah Trelease predicts the lockdown will cost more than $100,000 – just for four weeks.
