Festivals & Events
The celebrations, concerts, choir, music, plays, services, and artistic therapies all enrich the lives of those who live and work here.
Along with Matariki, Christmas, Easter, Waitangi and ANZAC days, we also have our own Hohepa festival and events. One such example is the ‘Silent Meal,’ where we remember the Last Supper. Every year just prior to Easter, the whole community gathers to share a hushed candlelit meal of fish, bread and grapes – on long tables placed end to end and laid with white linen tablecloths. Whilst not compulsory, many staff and people we support attend, and join together as a community.
The seasons are all celebrated – autumn harvest festival being a favourite, with festivities held on the farm. We also have an annual Families Weekend – often with live music and energetic dancing. Many family members and friends, also part of the Hohepa community, loyally support these gatherings.
Birthdays too, are eagerly anticipated; particularly the milestone ‘big zeros!’ Celebrating these helps to strengthen the sense that we each have a biography which we create.
